A good Irish bar is always great to come across when travelling. There’s no better feeling than bumping into an old friend on the other side of the world! Australia has some great watering holes to offer the ex-pat, there`s only one way to find out which is best, and that`s go to all of them!
I will present to you a weekly pub guide; outlining the best times to hit the best bars! We, at whosurpaddy.com, have put extensive research into this and our detective work has produced an array of results. Why not leave your comments in our paddy chat room so the next group of researchers will benefit from it. I won`t do Friday or Saturday nights as they all claim to be the “best pub in the world” on these nights: Don’t they realise they are just confusing us? How sillyJ
Bondi
The notorious 33rd County Bondi! This is where a lot of the Young Irish find themselves when arriving in Sydney- but be careful, it is hard to get out of, and many one year visas are spent here. There are two great Irish bars here; these are the ones where you will (for sure) meet someone from home. They are like most bars in Sydney, in that they have deals on at certain times of the week. The best thing to do is check out their websites. The Cock and Bull, and the Tea Gardens offer a good time all week long, all day long!

Very busy at the weekends with lots of music, vibrant, fun atmosphere.

Packed on a Friday evening after a hard week’s work. Good place to start off the week if you’re living close by. Live music is played here also, yeeehooo!
City of Sydney
There is so much to choose from in the city and most of the bars have lots going on, I will give you the best times to hit each bar. So you can choose your favourite one.
Monday to Friday
During the week in Sydney most of the bars have plenty going on. For backpackers, the best has to be Scruffy Murphy`s, with a plethora of deals in the evening (it’s the best way the keep the coin in the pocket)! They have music seven nights a week, and Toohey`s New (local Australian beer) is sold at just $7 a jug. Guinness is served at $5 a pint, which I think you’ll agree is pretty hard to beat! You will find backpackers in Scruffy’s from every corner of the world.
Saturday
On Saturday around 3pm your best bet is to head to the Welcome Inn , Balmain. Here you are guaranteed a great four hour session, with Irish traditional music for you to make some shapes to.
After that if you head to PJ O`brien`s in the city you will be sure to have a great time; head in early though, as the queues can be long at times. Watch out for the Packie Bonner save from the 1990 World Cup, and see the crowd go wild like we did 18 years ago! Here`s a taste of what the atmosphere is like: Click Me
If you’re still parched after that, your best bet would be to go full circle, and re-visit good old Scruffy`s to finish off your night.
Sunday
The best thing to do on a Sunday morning is to fill your belly with a good hearty Irish breakfast. Nowhere does it better than the only Licensed Irish Restaurant in Sydney, “Mulligans”. If you’re feeling homesick, nip down there; their food is just as good as your mammies!
No doubt you’ll have worked up a thirst by then, and if so, there are many good bars to go to on a Sunday. The famous Peter Byrne plays live in Scruffy’s from 3-6pm.Another one is Durty Nelly`s; with live Irish Music and a famous Sunday roast. Durty’s closes at 10pm, which is convenient if you’re working on Monday morning. If you can handle the hangover at work the following day, you MUST then visit the Mercantile down at the Rocks. The world renowned Shaylee Wilde plays the night away with the good old classics.
